
Tragic loss, like what happened in Newtown, causes predictable damage to our sense of self, but damage that can be the cause of our transformation and growth. Using an example from work done in New York City after 9/11 at the request of the Mayor's Office, we explore the four major ways our suffering, if left unattended, can destroy our sense of self and the healthy way this process can be resolved in the growth of our "Compassionate Identity."
